The Easy Way To Get Your Fruits And Veggies

It’s no secret that eating more fruits and veggies every single day is what protects our bodies from disease. With heart disease and cancer squeezing life from family, I realize now that my journey to BETTER must include increasing my intake of fruits and veggies everyday.

My hope is that by embracing more fruits and veggies and absorbing them at my very core, I will revitalize my health, transform and protect my body.  

Oh, and let’s not forget, USDA recommends that the average adult eats 1 ½ cups to 2 cups per day of fruit and 2 to 3 cups per day of vegetables.

Most of us as adults know this, but let’s be real… Which category do you fall into? Only 1 in 10 adults get enough fruits and vegetables everyday. So, I unfortunately, my friends LOVE fruits and vegetables, but I don’t get in the daily recommended.. NOT even close!

I do love fruits and veggies, but I must be honest with you. I have a real hard time because I buy so many yummy fruits and veggies, but I often times see my money being thrown away. When I buy in the produce section, it never seems to last more than 3-5 days. And, I have tried sprays, gadgets, spinners, and hacks to keep my fruits and veggies fresher and last longer. I have not been successful.

Juicing?

Similarly, I have also taken all of these fruits and vegetables and tried “juicing.” This was not sustainable for me.  It’s a ton of work buying fresh, chopping it all and then juicing and storing it. To be honest, it didn’t taste good either. 

Likewise, I have tried again and again every kind of smoothie and shake. Let’s be honest, if it said it would help me lose weight, yup, bought it and tried it. My response was always the same. I would grit my teeth, choke it down and suck it up. 


Another trial that I have tried again and again are smoothies and shakes. Yup, you name it and I bought it and tried it. My response from those were always the same. I would grit my teeth, choke it down and suck it up. 

So, on my journey to BE BETTER, I am working to consume a minimum of 7 servings. And, I am going to share with you exactly how I am doing this right now in my daily routine.

My Morning Routine

I start my day with water. When I first hop up out of bed about 6AM, I try to consume a 12 oz bottle of water while I get ready for work.

Then, before I leave for work, I make my latte. Here is my secret to my morning boost. I buy a 12 pack Premier Protein High Protein Shake, Caramel for $17.42 at Sam’s Club. You can also find these on Amazon.This is the best pricing I have found for my caramel protein shakes.  I brew my own Starbucks at home with my Verisimo. You can find this at Starbucks or you can also find this one on Amazon that is compatible for the Starbucks Espresso pods. I personally prefer the Espresso Dark Roast pods. 

I love this HOT or ICED! 

Because of the added protein, this one coffee satisfies me until around 10 or 10:30AM. Then, I have my first UpShoot Shake. I start with the Berry Smoothie for mornings that is packed full of 10 grams of plant protein and gets me my first 2 full servings of fruits and vegetables for the day. Depending on my morning meeting schedule, I might blend this up at home with my Ninja in the morning before I leave.

During the Day

This smoothie tastes delicious. I don’t ever have the grit my teeth, choke it down or suck it up experience. This satisfies me through lunch until about 12:30 or 1.  I try to get a healthy lunch. For me, this includes a salad of choice with chicken or a soup, which adds at least 1-2 servings of vegetables.  AND, I drink lots of water throughout the work day.

After Work

Typically, I get home from work around 4 or 4:30.  This is when I drink my Super Drink Greens. Yes, it’s green! I like to add a bit to it, so the color varies from green to brown depending what I add to it. This super drinks gets me 3 full serverings of nutrient-rich vegetables, including spinach, kale and celery and with immune supportive superfoods like Organic Spirulina and Chlorella. This super drink is what gives me my fuel after ending a work day and moving into evening full of activities.

Again, drink lots of water.

TMI — if not for you, skip this section.  HAHA So, if you know me at all, you know I have an issue with my digestion. These shakes and smoothies DON’T HAVE ME RUNNING TO THE BATHROOM. This is important! It keeps me regular, but not running to the bathroom.

My super drink also has been keeping me from snacking and cravings before dinner, which has always been a huge downfall for me.

Then, my evening goals are to 

  • Cook healthier meals at night for dinner with the family
  • Drink lots of water
  • Be done EATING before 6 or 7 pm
